Thanks to Jenni Martin’s generous donation of a bicycle to the
Red Cross youth group Peet Pietersen’s kid’s MTB group is growing stronger!
Earlier this year Peet, with the guidance of Asher Moses and Greyton Primary, started a riding club for the primary school children of Heuwelkroon. The Greyton Genadendal MTB club also got involved to help with the fixing of bikes and has applied for funding for more bikes, spares and to have someone trained to fix these bikes as and when they break.
Up until today Peet has been taking groups of up to 20 kids out riding on his own. It’s not easy to control 20 highly excited youngsters!
Jenni has sponsored a bike for the Red Cross youth group which now enables Marchel (Red Cross youth group co-ordinator) to join Peet in leading the kids on their afternoon rides twice a week. After a quick introduction Marchel started by setting some ground rules in his quiet firm manner - no more scrummaging to get the bikes from the store! From now they'll stand in a line shortest to tallest and the shortest kid gets his bike first. I like it!
